Nagra 'bends it' at UK's Emma awards in TV category

MUMBAI: The Ethnic Multicultural Media Awards (Emma) 2004 were presented in a glitzy ceremony held in Grosvenor House hotel in London. Parmindar Nagra, of Bend It Like Beckham fame, was awarded the best female television actor, for her role in Second Generation.
 
 
Yasmin Alibhai-Brown and Lisa Aziz were among other leading Asian women honoured at the Emma awards yesterday. The former received the award in the Best Print Journalism category while the latter was awarded in the category of TV News Journalist.

Art Malik and Inder Manocha also received awards for the Best TV actor and Best Comedian category respectively.

 
 
Media Personality For The Year award was bestowed on Greg Dyke, former director general of British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Vanessa Feltz, broadcaster and columnist, received the Best Radio News Journalist award.

Hollywood actor Tom Cruise was conferred the Best Film Actor award for his movie The Last Samurai. Maia Morgenstern who acted in The Passion of the Christ bagged the best female actor award. The movie was also honoured with the Best Movie award of the year.

On the sports front, soccer stars David Beckham and Thierry Henry were voted as the joint winners in the Best Sporting Personality category.

BBC's acclaimed documentary The Secret Policeman won the Best TV Documentary award.

Highlights of the Emma awards will be shown on BBC2 in the UK on 30 May at 11:15 pm GMT.
