MUMBAI: Ever since Swiss watch manufacturer Rado launched the world's first scratch proof watch over 40 years ago, it has been constantly striving to create the world’s hardest watch. After years of constant innovation, this quest has culminated with the innovation of V10K- the hardest watch on Earth.

This watch has been launched in India. Rado president Roland Streule said, “The Rado V10K is a dream come true for all of us at Rado and I am really proud to share this achievement with the people of India. The Rado V10K is a watch that comprehensively fulfills all the demands of outstanding design, technological innovation and an elegant timepiece.”

V10K stands for Vickers 10,000. Vickers is a scale of hardness used particularly in material technology that determines the hardness of materials by indenting them with a diamond pyramid under a specified load and measuring the size of the impression produced. The scale goes from zero to 10,000 Vickers – the ultimate value that only diamonds attain because only diamonds can scratch all other materials. It is this ultimate value that Rado has taken as a yardstick, which means that only genuine diamond can leave scratches on the upper surface of the Rado V10K.

Rado brand ambassadress Lisa Ray said, “What I find fascinating about the Rado V10K is that despite being the hardest, it is an elegantly designed piece.”

Priced at Rs. 193,000 the world's hardest watch is available in one size with various colored rubber straps. Case back and strap clasp are in skin-friendly titanium. The time can be easily adjusted on the case back by means of the magnetic contact element that is integrated into the strap.

Rado claims that its new product has now pushed forward the absolute limits of ‘scratchproofness.’ The lateral elements of the rectangular case and the elegant connecting pieces between sapphire crystal and rubber strap have been protected against scratching with the diamond hardness of 10,000 Vickers.
