NEW DELHI: The government has hiked the DAVP (Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity) rates by 10 per cent till 30 June, 2009.

The fiscal stimulus package for the print media also includes 15 per cent waiver of agency commission on DAVP advertisements till 30 June, 2009, taking the effective hike to 25 per cent.

For availing the 10 per cent increase, a newspaper will have to give documentary proof of loss of revenue in non-governmental advertisements as compared with the same period last year.

The revision of advertisement rates was under consideration of the ministry on the demand of captains of media industry. The ministry had taken up the matter with the Ministry of Finance, which has now given its concurrence.

Recently, the government had lowered the customs duty on imported newsprint to ease pain of the print media industry which has seen a slump in advertising growth due to a slowdown in the economy.

Earlier in September last year, the I&B ministry had hiked DAVP advertisements by 24 per cent, applicable for advertisements released on or after 1 September, 2008. All categories of newspapers and periodicals empanelled with DAVP had been covered under the revised rates.
